| 12:1 It might be fitting for me to boast, but I don’t gain anything from it. I will continue, however, to visions and revelations of the Lord. 2 I am aware of a man inside of Christ, fourteen years ago (whether in or out of the body, I do not know, God knows), such a man was seized into the third heaven. 3 And I am aware of such a man (whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows), 4 that he was seized into Paradise and he heard inexpressible words that humans are not permitted to speak. 5 I will boast about such a man, but I will not boast about myself except in weaknesses. 6 Even if I wanted to boast, I would not be a fool. I am speaking truth. Thus I refrain, lest anyone should credit to me more than what he sees in me or hears of me from anyone. • 7 Therefore, so that I should not become arrogant in the surpassing excellence of the revelations, the things unveiled to me, a thorn in my flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, that he might strike me, so that I would not become arrogant. [l] 8 I begged the Lord three times that this might depart from me. • 9 But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is brought to full completion inside of your weakness.” • Most gladly, therefore, I will boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest, dwell, spread as a tent over, and abide upon me. 10 Therefore, I take pleasure inside of weaknesses, inside of insults [k], inside of hardships and constraints, inside of persecutions and being attacked; inside of distress and anguish, for the sake of Christ; for in whatever way I might be weak, then I am strong. 11 You have compelled me to become a fool, for I ought to have been commended by you. In no way was I inferior to those most eminent of apostles {a direct referral to James and Peter}, even if I am no one. 12 Indeed, the signs of an apostle were performed among you inside of all perseverance, in both signs and wonders and expressions of power. 13 In what way are you inferior to the other churches, except that I did not burden you with myself? Forgive me, for I was wrong. 14 Perceive this, I am ready to come to you a third time, and still, I will not burden you. For I do not seek what is yours, but you. For the children ought not to treasure up for the parents, but the parents for the children. 15 I now most gladly spend myself freely and will be utterly spent, for the sake of your souls. Am I less loved if I more abundantly love you? 16 Be it so, however, I will not burden you. Yet being crafty, I caught you by trickery. 17 Did I take advantage of you through any of those whom I sent to you? 18 I urged Titus to go and sent the brother with him. Did Titus take advantage of you? Do we not walk in the same Spirit? And in the same steps? 19 Have you been thinking all along that we have been defending ourselves to you? We speak out from God inside of Christ so that you might be built up in all ways [into God’s dwelling place]. 20 For I fear lest perhaps, when I come, you may not find me as you would prefer, and I might be found by you such as you do not want; lest there be found, perhaps, quarreling, rivalry, angers, self-ambitions, much evil-speaking, whisperings of gossip, conceits, disturbances and upheavals; 21 lest when I come again, my God should humble me towards you, and I should grieve [as of a death] over many of those who previously fell short of God and did not change their minds regarding the impurity, sexual immorality, and outrageous conduct they have practiced. |
| Gospel Word | Notes |
|---|---|
| • Kingdom: The wickedest action we could do would be to take the Flow of the knowledge of God through us and use it to place ourselves “above” that we might abuse our brethren. The FEAR of God is so valuable to us, for God alone keeps us. We are silent about ourselves as if we are something in self. • Covenant: Salvation is a life shared with God inside of a life shared with Jesus. The Giving of Jesus is the Grace that makes it happen. Jesus is all that we need. This is the Covenant, that we complete Jesus even as Jesus completes us. • Speak Christ: We are weak. God made us weak so that we might be filled with all that Jesus is. Jesus completes us; He fills our every weakness with His mighty power. Therefore we boast, not in our “superiority,” but in our weaknesses, that Jesus fills all that we are. We do not make ourselves “strong” or “fix” ourselves, for Jesus is the only strength we need. |
l. We never think that this deliverance from arrogance is anything other than th wonderful gift of God. We get excited when awful pressures hit against us, for we know that God is keeping us. k. The Greek word is hubris – referencing the hard actions of bullies against. |
