Musings on Union
This volume is a series of thoughts on our marriage union with the Lord Jesus Christ, what it might mean, and how far that union might go.Many Christians see our marriage union with the Lord Jesus Christ as an “event” far in the future by which, in some outward way, we are attached to the Lord Jesus.
I see our marriage union with the Lord Jesus Christ as full and complete, now and forever, but I see that union as an inclusion into the same relationship Jesus enjoys with the Father.
As He is, so are we in this present age. 1 John 4
Here is a fuller rendition of our present and perfect union with Christ:
That they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one. John 17
And again: Know that I am in the Father and you in Me and I in you. John 14
What do these words mean? How complete, how perfect is this union we live in with the Person of Jesus? How far does this union go? What is its purpose?
How do we know God?
At the same time, many believers, having heard the concept of our present union with Christ, reject that idea as present truth since, in their minds, they are sinners, and how can Jesus be in union with sin?
More than that, some have noticed differences in my expression of union with Christ than what is normally found in others who teach of that union. How do I account for those differences?
But these are issues — we do not live in issues, but only inside of Jesus.
What does this wondrous merging of pure and perfect union, communion, and expression with the Father and with Jesus Sent always arising every moment within us really mean?
You will not find in these pages any departure from the New Testament. I desire to know the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Covenant I signed with Him and He with me. That Covenant is found in the core statements of the gospel according to Paul and confirmed in all ways by John.
Here is the core of that Covenant: God determined us to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:29
And again: But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3
And confirmed by John: But we know that when He is revealed, we shall belike Him, for we shall see Him as He is. 1 John 3
I take God seriously, and I believe that what He speaks is real. At the same time, I reject all “Christian” ideas God does not say.
That they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one.
And then: For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. Hebrews 10
Is it God’s will for us to know Christ as our only life now? Is it God’s will for us to put the Lord Jesus Christ upon ourselves in all ways in every moment, to put Jesus upon our spirits, to put Jesus upon our souls, and to put Jesus upon our bodies, and by so doing to turn our backs forever against any thought of not-Christ?
I must know the Father and I must know Jesus Sent.
