2. What Did Jesus See?

Chapter Outline:
The writer of Hebrews stated that Jesus endured the cross "for the joy set before Him." Jesus saw something that He wanted as He was led through the stumbling steps of the Atonement. That something was the Church, the gathering together of His own ones inside of Him.

We begin our investigation of the question, "What is man?" by another question, "What did Jesus see?" As Jesus walked to the cross, what drew Him on? What was this joy set before Him? If we can understand at least the questions, then we are well on our way to that point where we can begin to define the human Biblically and accurately.

2.1 The Father Plainly. Before stating "the joy set before Him," the writer of Hebrews gave this admonition, "Looking with purpose into Jesus." Before we can know what Jesus saw in us, we must first know what we see in Him. Who and what is this Man stumbling under a cross He cannot carry? How do we see Him?

2.2 The End of the Covenant. Before we can begin to know what Jesus saw, that is, humans completely won into all the Salvation of God, we must know the terms of the Covenant God entered into with us, that is, what God intends to secure for HImself out of His binding agreement with us..

2.3 The Church. If the Church in her full glory is what Jesus saw, the Joy that drew Him forward, what is that Church? What is the gathering together of believers in Jesus in her glory, in her full and completed state?
