4.2 Entering Boldly

The Sixth Most Important Verse
Hebrews 10:19-22
. Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

It is clear that we enter into everything that God is for us with all boldness at every step.

These four verses are all one long and complicated sentence. Let’s reduce these things down to three. First is a description of the way; second is the things given us to pass through that way; and third is the Holiest itself into which we enter.

Alive to God. To better understand our view, consider this verse. Reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:11). Galatians 2:20 teaches us how we are already dead to sin and how we live in the knowledge of that reality. Then, Hebrews 10:19-22 teaches us how we are alive to God and how we live in the knowledge of that reality.

Neither of these is speaking of our outward performance by our human effort. Both are speaking of the confidence of the faith in which we walk, that is, the faith of the Son of God. And the operative word is BOLDNESS, the Greek, parhessia, the freedom to speak bold statements of faith publicly, boldness in every step.

The Holiest of All? What is the Holiest of All? The Holiest is all of God, but specifically the Throne of the Almighty, the Mercy Seat of heaven. Of truth, Ephesians 3:19 tells us that God has entered into us in all that He is in Person. And Hebrews 10:19-22 tells us that we, in all that we are, have entered into God in all that He is.

The Holiest of All is everything most Christians mean when they say, “Go to heaven,” something God never says, something Paul instructs us never to say. “Go to heaven” is a someday gospel that takes no faith and has no form of reality right now. Its deadly effect is to blind Christians to the reality that we live IN all that is God NOW.

The Way. Let’s go through the many things this one long sentence gives us first as the way into all that is God and second as the things given to us to enable us to walk in that way.Narrow is the gate and straight [pressed-in] is the way which leads to life (Matthew 7:14). – I am the way (John 14:6).

The picture God gave us defining for us our Way into Life is the Tabernacle of Moses in the wilderness. That Tabernacle is designed specifically to enter, to pass through, and to arrive inside the Holy of Holies – Life. You see, the New Testament is very clear about God’s structure for a Godly understanding of all New Testament truths – the Tabernacle of Moses. Did you know that? If not, why not?

Describing the Way. Let me give you a translation/paraphrase of the first part of this “verse” that is closer to the original Greek than that given by the New King James. Therefore brethren, having boldness of freedom to enter into the Holiest in the blood of Jesus consecrating for us a newly sacrificed as well as a living way through the veil, that is, through His flesh…

The blood of Jesus consecrates the way we walk through the wide-open veil into all of God, through the very flesh of Jesus. To understand what is meant by “a newly sacrificed as well as a living way” we must go back to Moses’ Tabernacle on the Day of Atonement.

The Scapegoat. You see, the Atonement of God is not one thing, but two together. First is the Lamb dead upon the cross and all of our sins dead inside His death. But just as important is the living scapegoat, the same Lord Jesus, carrying all of our present sinfulness, inside Himself even now as He lives as us.

And then we discover that the only way we will ever pass through into all of God is when we accept that our flesh in all of its selfish misery belongs entirely to Jesus. That our flesh IS His flesh.

Jesus is responsible for me in all ways and in every moment. Jesus carries me.

Four Possessions. Then, we possess four specific things as we pass boldly through the Veil into all of God. 1. Having the boldness of freedom. 2. Having a High Priest. 3. Having hearts sprinkled from any consciousness of sins. 4. Having bodies washed with pure water.

We have already touched on the meaning of boldness. What, then, does it mean that we have a “High Priest?” It means that Jesus inside our hearts is always our go-between connecting us with all the “too-much-ness” of the fullness of God.

And what is “sprinkled from an evil conscience?” It means no thought of ever falling short of God; it means knowing that Jesus IS our “always hitting the target.”

No Consciousness of Sins. Consider these preceding statements in Hebrews 10. For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. – One sacrifice for sins forever. – For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.

No consciousness of sins – already perfected forever. Is this not a different way of living and thinking than most Christians know? Why are these things not taught?

And “bodies washed with pure water” means that our physical bodies, the earth part of us with all weakness, are utterly acceptable to God. Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God (Romans 12:1).

All of God. And what do we find as we enter the Holiest? Everything there is inside of “ALL” of God. And that, dear reader, is an infinite expanse of treasures uncounted forever. Yet we enter all that is God – NOW – and with all boldness, daring, daring boldness. Only the heart of man, the heart of God, would dare such a thing. There is no trace of “Oh me, oh my,” inside that word BOLDNESS. Let’s paraphrase this sixth most important verse.

I enter NOW with all the daring boldness of God’s heart filling mine right into the Holiest Place in heaven, the very throne of God – KNOWING that my flesh is His flesh, the wide-open Veil – with my heart, the Mercy Seat, sprinkled always with Blood, and with my body, flesh of His flesh, washed with pure water.

See the Blood. Timidity before God dishonors Him; the bold audacity of faith alone pleases Him. Yet here is no arrogance of the separated human; here is Heart, the heart of flesh, the very Mercy Seat of God, sprinkled always with Blood, sprinkled always with Blood, sprinkled always with Blood.

Those who see the Blood cannot see sin. Those who see sin cannot see the Blood. It’s all of one or all of the other; there is no compromise or mixture. NO consciousness of sins. There is a mighty barrier standing before the Holiest Place in God, that barrier is the veil of Jesus’ flesh.

Our Flesh or His? Either we see our flesh as Jesus’ own flesh or He cannot share with us. If our flesh is not His Flesh, we will never enter in.

Those who believe that their hearts are deceitful and wicked, that their “flesh” is far away from God, that they are always going against God’s will, these will never give their hearts to God. He will never win their hearts; He cannot. No one will give God a heart they believe is unclean. They will always hide with Adam behind outward pretense. “Look, God, I did what You said. I obeyed Your Voice; I deserve life.” Pretending, pretending, and empty of God, AND always falling short, filled with the consciousness of sins.

I AND the Children. I am not speaking of us, dear believer in Jesus, for there is one place only in which we live. You and I are found inside the loudest words shouted in the universe, words so loud that if we could hear all things as they really are, no other sound could come near our hearing. Here are the loudest words in the Bible, spoken as answer to the question: Where are you, My Son? (Hebrews 2:13).

– HERE AM I!
I AND the children whom You have given me. –

When Jesus spoke those words, bearing inside Himself all the sin of the universe, there we were inside of Him. We have never been anywhere else.

Our Hearts. Jesus sprinkled His blood one time only; He did not sprinkle it twice. Jesus sprinkled His blood upon the throne of God, the Mercy Seat of the Holiest in heaven; Jesus sprinkled His blood upon our hearts. They are one and the same. My heart IS the throne of heaven; my heart IS the authority of God in the universe. The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us (Romans 5:5).

I have the right to be just like Jesus; I have the authority to love you as Jesus loves you. God and we together make all things good. God and we together set all creation free.

God Is Telling Us the Truth. Many Christians refuse to enter into full and present union with Christ. In complete contrast, we boldly live in and through everything that is God, everything that is heavenly, everything that is holy, right now, right here, personal in us.

We live in the Holiest by faith now, yes, before our spirit-eyes open and we can see. Whom [Jesus] having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him [outwardly], yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory (1 Peter 1:8).

But when we see all things as they really are, we will see the same things that we see now by faith – because God is telling us the truth.
