19. Judgment on Earth

There are particular people walking this earth right now whom you could trust if you placed them in positions of governmental power over others. You could pick them up, sit them down in the seat of power over, put all earthly authority into their hands and trust them to do the right thing. They are those who would look around slowly, rise slowly, turn their backs and walk away, saying nothing at all. The ones who “should” rule are the ones who would never rule. They are the only ones that can be trusted. To whom would God give the assignment of “striking the earth with all plagues, anytime they want”? That's easy, He gives it to those who simply never want to do any such thing. That's why His witness is clothed in sackcloth, just like Jesus.

I understand, now, why the book of Revelation has done so much damage to Christian hearts and minds all through the centuries of the church. There are two specific reasons. First is the idea that John's vision is a return to Old Testament thinking rather than just another form of the same gospel of Christ taught by John and Paul. Thus, even the gospel itself has been darkened by that Old Testament definition of Revelation. Included in that definition has been the deification of all the elements of the vision into things high above and not common and ordinary. And thus things that are simply the normal Christian life, and the normal life without Christ, have been made to be, in Christian imagination, extraordinary and highly unusual.

The second reason for the damage is that most of Christianity has defined the true Lamb as being the false, and have taken the seeing of the false lamb and forced that seeing upon the true. Those who, finding the present grace and goodness of God, still feel the need to strike Revelation from their Bibles, do so only because they continue to define John's vision by those two wrongful ways of seeing.

We live only inside of the One Lamb, the true Lamb. Thus, as we see God fulfill all that He speaks in our lives, now, upon this earth, we see all things only out from the eyes of that Lamb, out from eyes of fire, the fire of all-consuming love and the deepest of compassion.

Let me give a LAW for us to follow. The gospel as it comes through Paul rules absolutely over every element found in John's vision including the “lake of fire” – (For our God is a consuming fire; let brotherly love continue). Never the other way around; never do we use any element in Revelation to alter or to force under anything of Christ spoken by Paul in his gospel of Christ our life. Yet most of Christianity does exactly that.

I want to bring in a strange passage that comes in-between the seals and the trumpets.

When He opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets. Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it to the earth. And there were noises, thunderings, lightnings, and an earthquake. Rev. 8:1-5

I think that the seventh seal, the seventh trumpet, and the seventh vial overlap each other, that is, speak of the same moment in the great story of God. For three hours upon the cross, from 12 noon, when Jesus went silent, until 3 PM, when He cried His last, there was silence in heaven. The story of God ceased. Here, the numbering of God is made full with the missing half hour. Silence in heaven for ½ hour is the most momentous judgment found in the book of Revelation. I certainly cannot see what it means, but I know it means much.

For God not to tell His story, for God to pause in the speaking of Christ, that is a terrible thing.

The golden censor is that which takes the smoke from the altar of incense into the Holiest of all. We see here that the smoke continues on up in what we know from Exodus to be the pillar of fire, “ascended before God.” The smoke and the “prayers” are symbols of the manchild caught up to God and to His throne. This is the experience of God with us right now. I would suggest that you read Pillar of Fire at this point. These verses and Revelation 12:5 and 12:10-11 are the same thing.

We are the Mercy Seat; we are the tip point of the Pillar of Fire as God purifies the earth. This is a Spirit Word, I speak of no fleshy work. Notice that the fire from the Altar of Incense goes in two directions at the same time. It ascends to God at the same time that it is thrown into the earth.

This is judgment; it is Mercy, the Mercy Seat of God doing its full work upon the earth.

Yet that judgment, the entrance of Mercy as it first appears, is terrible.

Here is a terrible thing that we see. Here, the fire from the altar goes in two directions at the same time, caught up to God on the one hand and flung into the earth on the other. The overcomes proceeding from the throne of God do the same thing. They go out from that throne as the body of the true Lamb in the earth and they go out from that throne as the other lamb. You see, it is the true Lamb who opens the seal to release the other lamb into the earth. The image of a far-way Christ is part of the judgment of God against all human separation, against the sin of Adam, against the lie and the curse. But more on that in “The Battle.”

Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, “Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. And I will givepower to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”

These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth. And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner. These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire. Revelation 11:1-6

I find arising in me right now a great desire to know Christ my life through every word in this passage, to know Him thus in meekness and simplicity of heart. Let's take that approach, let's walk through these phrases together. But first, we must make them Christ personal in us.

I possess the measurement of all the fullness of Christ; I measure the temple of God; I measure those who worship God in travail; we walk together as one body; I lay down my life for them. I do not measure those believers who see only by natural light. They are not included at this time, though their time will surely come. I possess all that is Christ; I prophesy Christ; I am clothed in sackcloth.

I am the two olive trees; I am the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth. If anyone wants to harm me, fire proceeds from my mouth and devours my enemies. (We are speaking a Spirit Word.) If anyone wants to harm me, he must be killed in this manner. I have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls all the days I prophecy Christ. I have power over waters to turn them to blood. I have power to strike the earth with all plagues, anytime I want.

Yes, this is a Spirit Word, but I am unable to draw it all away from literal reality taking place on this planet. Here's the deal. God can't save anyone unless He first secures their attention. Nothing of God comes to anyone except through their faith. The first part of faith is to hear; the first part of hearing is to focus one's attention. A person cannot hear what they do not notice.

No one will allow the true Lamb to erase the Nicene lamb from their minds unless God points their attention to those who speak the true story of Christ in its entirety, unless they are seized with a strong desire to know God's real purpose. Jesus, all through His ministry, did exactly that.

Jesus did not just randomly strike against the Pharisees for the fun of it. Great purpose came through every word He said, every step He walked. Yes, His desire was to win the hearts of individuals among the Pharisees, and He did succeed with some. Yet He had a larger purpose and that was to break the psychological hold the Pharisees and their re-definition of Moses and God had over the people.

The attention of every individual person in Israel was already fixed. I will develop that idea more in an upcoming letter, “The Number of Its Name.” That fixation of the attention of all was primarily one of fear, fear pointed towards both the Pharisees' Moses/God and fear pointed towards the Romans. Jesus had an easier time of it because the power of violence was in Roman hands only, and they held no place of God in the minds of the people. The Pharisees could not inflict outward pain on people's lives, only social pain.

No one was really capable of hearing Jesus, except in outward form, for a little bit. Yes, they heard Him gladly as He healed their bodies, but it was a shallow hearing. Every action of Jesus against the Pharisees, however, served to break that fixation of attention the people directed towards the Pharisaical definitions of God and Moses. On the Day of Pentecost, that work of Jesus came to full fruit in a moment; Peter now had their attention.

Getting people's attention is the first work of grace.

Miracles have their place in that first work of grace, but they are usually not sufficient by themselves. Of far greater importance is the sword biting through the chains.

Let's expand on that, the pattern between Jesus' ministry and ours. It is very possible that Jesus' ministry lasted one thousand two hundred and sixty days. His ministry was clothed with humility.

Jesus, as He walked through the days of His ministry, had two distinct and separate purposes filling His mind and heart. His inner purpose was to be prepared Himself in all ways for the path of the Atonement, that He might absolve sin and win life for all. But His outer purpose, His visible purpose, was focused entirely on June 5, AD 29 and the ensuing days and weeks. It was Jesus' ministry that placed a people before Peter and the other apostles, a people eager to hear the grace of God and to enter into life.

Jesus' ministry was not for temporal purposes. Everyone whom He healed, got sick again. Everyone whom He raised from the dead, died again. Everyone who heard Him gladly, forgot what He had said. Rather, every word He spoke, every deed He did, every step He walked was filled with great purpose – to prepare a people who would hear His apostles and receive all the life of God in the birthing of the church.

John the Baptist's purpose was to turn people's attention to Jesus. Jesus' purpose through all of His outer actions, was to prepare that same people for the Day of Pentecost.

Our ministry follows the same pattern.

First, our inner purpose is fixed with all the passion of our hearts upon the Lord Jesus Himself in Person in us, proving all the reality and glory of the Atonement through us and through our bodies upon this planet. Second, our outer purpose is to prepare a people who will hear the Word of Tabernacles as it comes in fullness, in the great day of the feast, God dwelling among men through a body prepared for Him.

Right now, we have no one's attention. There are so many voices speaking so many things, like never before in history. We are one tiny pipsqueak lost in an ocean of clamor.

Yet we ARE being prepared, and the Word God speaks through us is being purified just as Jesus is pure.

Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, “Rise and measure…”

There is one measurement only by which all are measured.

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. Ephesians 4:13

Do you see how evil “go to” heaven is, for it has utterly diverted the eyes of everyone from the only focus that counts – the stature of the fullness of Christ. The fullness of Christ is the only thing we see, the only thing we think about, the immediate goal to which every step we take and every word we speak is directed.

The fullness of Christ is the measurement God has placed into our hands. And by that measurement we measure three things: the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there.

But wait, we forgot to ask.

“Father, I ask of You right now. Father, I come before you in one spirit and one heart, one faith, with all those who love Your appearing. We believe all that You speak, Father, we believe You here, we believe You now, we believe You Personal in us. Because we believe all that You speak, Father, we know Your Word, we know the Son of God who is our life, our heart, our breath, our every moment. And Father, by that knowledge, we know that we are seated upon Your Mercy Seat in the Holiest place in heaven, inside of You right now.

“And Father, in this place, in Christ Jesus our only life, we ask that from this moment on, all of Your Perfection be revealed in our weakness. We ask that from this moment on, all the fullness of Christ be our only expression, the life of Jesus revealed in our mortal flesh. Father, we are Your measurement; we are the Word Jesus spoke, revealed now through us. By that Word, which we believe with all joy, You measure all things.

“Thank You Father, we ask these things according to Your will, for Your Word is Your will, and in asking, we know without question that we have already received all that we have asked.”

But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it.

The majority of our brethren do not even see the altar of incense. And even those who rejoice in the light of the Holy Spirit and in the hidden manna of Christ in us, they may have a dim awareness of the altar of incense, yes, but rather than taking the light and the manna over to that altar, they simply bring a little bit of the altar back to the light and the manna. In the end, the outer court  has more sway on their hearts and minds than the Holiest of all.

What is the difference? I really do think that a large part of the difference is the difference between a view fixed on “go to” heaven versus a view fixed on all the fullness of Christ revealed in us. To the “go to” heaven mindset, the altar of incense has no real purpose. The light and the bread make sense, for they make our lives happier and us more able to be “good Christians,” but if the goal is simply to “go to” heaven after we die, then what's the point of all those hard dealings of God?

It is those who worship God in the altar of incense to whom we bring the measurement. For you see, those who remain in the altar of incense beyond their appointed time do so only because they refuse to enter the Holiest by faith. It is to them we must bring the measurement of all the fullness of Christ first.

All the rest of our brethren will have their appointed time of entering by the seasons of God, but God always begins with a Seed, and then a firstfruits, that is, many seeds, and then a full harvest. Right now we are concerned about the many seeds. When the many seeds are come to all the fullness of Christ, the full harvest must follow.

The many seeds are the judgment of God, the proof that God tells the truth.

I will skip the Gentiles, the treading underfoot, and the forty two months because I have nothing much coming out of Christ in my heart to say concerning those things and mental gymnastics are deadly.

Except I will say this. I dream a lot of vivid, imaginative stuff. I usually place little weight on any of my dreams. But I have had a few dreams that stood way above all others by the hand of God. One such dream I had during my early years at Blueberry, while I was in college.

I had just returned from a few weeks at home in Oregon with my parents and with the Christian brethren I had known there. In my dream I was walking back and forth beside a long line of Christian people, brethren, captives, with their eyes to the ground, being led to their execution. At the time I understood that to mean literal martyrdom at the hands of the beast. Now, I also see it to include all the execution of death as well – both.

I was not part of that line, nor held in any way by it. My whole effort was to capture the attention of the dear Christians in that line, believers I knew and loved. My words were these: “You do not need to remain in this line, death has no power over you. All you need to do is step away from the line and walk free.” Yet I could not gain their attention. They kept their eyes fixed on the ground, slowly shuffling forward.

It is here I will tuck that dream and say nothing more about this “treading underfoot.”

I have said much already about the second witness of Christ and about the prophetic word of Christ which we speak. We are the witness of Christ, the proof of the Atonement. Let's go on, then, to the next line.

These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth.

Do you see what has kept us away from the simple reality of the normal Christian life, that is, the stature of the fullness of Christ? It has always been the Nicene Christ that takes things like these and deifies them far above us vile and unworthy sinners here below, that drives a wedge of separation between us and the knowledge of the Son of God our only life, the true story of Christ our life.

The two olive trees are Christ; the two olive trees are us. The two lampstands are Christ; the two lampstands are us. What could be more simple, more the normal Christian life than for all the fullness of God to flow out to all through us?

I can't see anything to reduce, so let me bring in all of Zechariah 4.

Now the angel who talked with me came back and wakened me, as a man who is wakened out of his sleep. And he said to me, “What do you see?”

So I said, “I am looking, and there is a lampstand of solid gold with a bowl on top of it, and on the stand seven lamps with seven pipes to the seven lamps. Two olive trees are by it, one at the right of the bowl and the other at its left.” So I answered and spoke to the angel who talked with me, saying, “What are these, my lord?”

Then the angel who talked with me answered and said to me, “Do you not know what these are?” And I said, “No, my lord.”

So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts. ‘Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone with shouts of “Grace, grace to it!”’”

Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying: “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands shall also finish it. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you. For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the Lord, which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth.”

Then I answered and said to him, “What are these two olive trees—at the right of the lampstand and at its left?” And I further answered and said to him, “What are these two olive branches that drip into the receptacles of the two gold pipes from which the golden oil drains?”

Then he answered me and said, “Do you not know what these are?” And I said, “No, my lord.”

So he said, “These are the two anointed ones, who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth.”

Wow, everything in this chapter I have already been speaking of. We see through seven eyes of fire, we see all that God does upon the earth. This is a chapter to read over and over, one of the most filled-with-the-revelation-of-Jesus-Christ chapters in the Old Testament. But read only by seeing all things through Christ and by seeing all the revelation of Christ first through 1 John and then through John's gospel.

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 1 John 2:20 – And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. 1 John 5:20

It's so simple; we should just believe that God is telling us the truth.

Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent Me to you. Zechariah

I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. Jesus in John 17

It's all the same word; let's believe its all really true. Let's tell ourselves the story that all of it is our only life, the only reality we know.

And if anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouth and devours their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, he must be killed in this manner.

I suspect that this word is a Spirit word and a literal word, both at the same time. I have brought in before the clear teaching of the gospel.

Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:20-21

And yet, I want to talk, here, about the other.

I have walked in a bubble of protection all of my life, my wife the same. Evil has taken place around me, but I never saw it. Sometimes I heard about it after the fact. Sometimes I was fully conscious of that bubble, even while I was standing in darkness. And other times, I'm sure, I walked on by without ever being conscious of the violence, the compromise, the degradation, that almost all others experience. I have watched death stop without reason an inch from my body more than once (three strong times, several lesser times). In reality nothing happened. Yet one more second, two more inches, and I would have been eliminated.

Let me give one example of that bubble of grace. We lived in a trailer park in Lubbock, Texas for about a year. It was a pleasant home for us, yet there were unsavory characters living all around us. Towards the end of our time there, the unsavoriness was increasing. Some kid did steal our daughter's bike from our yard as they walked by, but otherwise nothing harmful even came into our sight. Yet immediately after we sold our trailer and moved out, the new owners were robbed of valuable possessions inside that trailer three times in a row in the next few months.

In another direction, I attended an Assembly of God church for several months at age nineteen. During that time, I received the full experience of the Spirit and speaking in tongues. At a certain time, my friend and I just up and decided our time there was over and we began to attend a different Assembly of God church where my parents attended. Within a couple of weeks we began to hear incredible stories coming out of that former church, pastors resigning, the church splitting apart, sin and recrimination, exposure and deceit. Hey – all we ever saw was the goodness of God and the workings of the Holy Spirit towards us.

And so it has always been.

But I think my websites and articles have started to get the attention of the wrong eyes. Edward Kjos of sonsofgod.com has felt to place all that he shares behind a password wall. He freely gives access, but you must ask directly. That is of the Lord and right for him. I have felt to cast my bread across the waters, however. On the one hand, I do not wish to cast any pearls before swine, but on the other hand, my heart breaks at the thought that one thirsty soul would miss the appointment of God because I was afraid. I know that's impossible, but you understand my heart.

Two to three dozen people download The Jesus Secret every month. I have no idea where all it goes. I read articles on the Internet, another just yesterday, of determined plans by the big guys to eliminate all opposition found on the Internet, including anything that speaks of judgment against Israel. A nineteen year old boy is facing 20 years in prison for saying something negative about the White House in the words of a song, something completely non-violent, something that would have been too tame when I was his age.

One of the most striking things to me about the dream I shared above is that I was in no way attached to that line of death. It did not concern me in the slightest. My only concern was to reach the hearts of those trudging down it.

Since praying the prayer of “Sealed in the Midst of the Storm” into audio, I have felt such a completion of goodness all the way through my insides. This is so abnormal for me, something I have never known before. And out of that completion of goodness, I see extended a protection of God as I've never known.

We walk forward inside the shields, inside the armor, inside the fortress of all the protection of God, just as Jesus walked. They could not touch Him before it was time.

Yet I think that in today's world the violence and hatred directed against the sons of God will be much more visible than that against Jesus. Because we call the governments of this world to account for their wicked deeds, we are the supreme “terrorists.”

Look at the testimony of the Bible. The Bible believers who used the power of government to force God's righteousness upon the people were the enemies of Christ. The martyrs of God all the way through were those who spoke against that same power of government and those, standing in the name of God, who used it for their own evil purposes. It is impossible to use government power except for evil purposes; it is the beast.

Look at the arguments of Christians in America – the “Christian” thing to do is to pass laws forcing people to do what is right AND anyone who shines the light of truth on the wicked deeds of the American (Republican AND Democrat) and Israeli governments, is an enemy of Christ. They have arrived by “Christian” reasoning at the very opposite perspective of the testimony of the entire Bible, yet they see it not.

 There will be a wall of protection surrounding us that will, quite possibly at times, silence those who would harm us. It would not be our doing, however, we walk only in God. Yet we will see marvelous things with our eyes.

These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire.

If we attempt to spiritualize these words, they create a strange situation. “So that no refreshing of the Holy Spirit comes upon anyone all the days that they speak the prophetic word of Christ into people's minds and hearts.” You see, attempting to read this line in that way takes us nowhere.

Let's speak only of the last part: and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire.

Probably America's greatest President was not long in office. The elections had brought a stalemate, so the power brokers picked the guy most likely to do nothing. He spent his presidency in a back room of the White House, playing cards and drinking whiskey. Under his watch, the United States suffered the most severe depression in its history, caused, not by this man, but by his “do-good” predecessor and the excess of WWI.

Warren G. Harding governed that worst of depressions perfectly: he did nothing. And that's why you've never read about America's greatest depression in your history books. Freedom erased it as quickly as it came.

I see many irate “prophets of God” in all directions, waving their Bibles, eager to pronounce judgment.

To whom would God give the assignment of “striking the earth with all plagues, anytime they want”?

That's easy, He gives it to those who simply never want to do any such thing. That's why His witness is clothed in sackcloth, just like Jesus.

This is a strange passage, filled with things that seem to cancel each other out. The Holy Spirit withheld even while the Word of Christ speaks most clearly? Power to strike the earth given to those who never wish to do any such thing?

Don't think that I might know what it all means. But as always, we must reach for perspective, for unless we see out from all-consuming Love, we can see nothing at all. And I do see Jesus, holding the power to call on ten thousand angels in His hand, yet turning His back and walking away from it all, refusing to harm anyone, laying down His life.

First, as I look across the next several chapters, one of which is already done, the others partly sketched out, I see that it is this larger perspective of God revealed inside of human reality as it is that I continue to reach for. When I skim through the “proclaimers of judgment,” I see neither a knowledge of God's heart nor a real understanding of the human condition.

When looking at one's brother, it is so much easier for the separated mind to hold him at arm's length and pronounce “Anathema,” than to value his heart and to see Christ as him, stumbling and bruised though he may be.

The world is incredibly evil. The actions of the American government against people in other countries over the last 125 years are filled with more instances of unspeakable atrocity and arrogant wrongness than can be numbered. You would take more than a lifetime to read such a list and every single instance would fill you with such sickness, especially because it is all done under the pretense of “goodness.”

Yes, people who happen to live in America do much good, person to person, for others, but part of the deception of the Beast is to equate the actions of wicked people using government power as if it is some “collective” that is all.

Never before in human history has so much evil been called “good” by people who are good and decent themselves. It is a greater contradiction than those found in Revelation 11.

God does not answer the contradiction by inflicting pain on everyone, though He will use the pain that comes as certain consequence to win people's attention. God answers the contradiction by proving His Word true through weakness in the midst of all deceit.

This Sunday service at Lakewood was wonderful all the way through. I heard the same things I teach coming so clearly through the words of the praise, through Victoria, and through Joel. The presence of the Holy Spirit was upon us. I looked out across ten thousand people who love Jesus with all their hearts.

Yet on the backdrop screen behind the band, there was a picture of Christ portrayed several times. It was utterly the Nicene Christ, with the halo of Apollo around his head, eyes gazing vacantly “heavenward,” and the shield of  Constantine, emblazoned with a red cross in his hand. And opposite it on the far back wall up high is a huge American flag, a flag of deceit. I don't doubt there are judgers who would say, “See, that proves it's all a mask for deception.” You can be sure I am running as far away from the judgers as I can. There are times when the earth does open its mouth.

I do not see as they see, I see only a Lamb laying down His life for His friends. I see out from His eyes alone.

In the end, I think, that we will see the greatest act of love displayed upon this earth since Jesus walked the Atonement, revealed by many. And as we do, we will look at the words of Christ in Revelation 11 and be simply overwhelmed as we see, point by point, that “this is that.”

We will see it and we will know it, because all that He does, He does through us, His body.

I really don't want to look at judgment any other way.

We are just like Him, we lay down our life for all.
