4.2 Desire

Father, I desire. The final portion of Jesus’ prayer is more penetrating, more deeply meaningful and overwhelming, than anything else we have ever considered in our entire lives.
Father, I desire THAT they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, THAT they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, THAT the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them” (John 17:24-26).
Father, I Desire
In this lesson we will focus on the first action of Jesus here, I DESIRE, and the two mighty effects upon you and me coming immediately and always out of that desire.Then, in the final lesson on this prayer, we will focus on the final action of Jesus, I declare and continue to declare Father’s name, and the overwhelming, all-consuming, beyond- all-knowing EFFECT coming out of that Action every moment, the almost unbelievable reality in which we continuously exist.
The FAITH of the Son of God. Father, I desire. All the power of the universe, both spiritual and physical, cannot come close to the wild and unrestrained passion, the mighty heart-throb expressed in these three words.
Intensity and Extent
Every tear ever shed, every sorrow ever borne, every love ever loved, every pleasure ever enjoyed, throughout all realms among animals, among humans, and among angels, all put together, cannot come close, cannot compare, cannot measure the intensity and extent of this DESIRE.
Theló (desire): to will, to desire. I will, I wish, I desire, I intend, I design.
I, Daniel Yordy , AM God’s will; I am the Desire of Jesus (put your own name in the blank and shout it to the heavens). The DESIRE of Jesus is the cause of the universe. The Desire of Jesus IS the Pro-Thesis of God.
See the Desire of God
But more importantly to us, the DESIRE of Jesus is the cause of you and me. We exist because Jesus wants us with a wanting beyond all things. Jesus wants you and me WITH Him.
It is the Father who is determined to live in and reveal Himself through family. Whatever Father is in Himself, the Son is that same thing in the Father. But then the Son, being that same DESIRE and determination of Father to have us with Him, comes forth from Father to us. This DESIRE, first the essence of Father, then the essence of Jesus, is planted in our hearts. Look at your heart; see the DESIRE of God.
The Bond of the Covenant
We are looking at Covenant, here, not yet Kingdom. Kingdom can never be separated from Covenant; Kingdom is always coming out from Covenant. In order to know Kingdom coming forth, we must know the Covenant out from which it comes.
The Desire of Jesus is the Bond of that Covenant. And this Desire of Jesus, this wanting of Jesus, produces two mighty effects in our lives. But Covenant always results immediately in Kingdom, and thus we see the direct object, the object receiving the action of Jesus’ desire is not “thou,” but “THEY.”
They
“They” is Kingdom; they is you and me together. They is all those alive right now on this earth and all those dead in Christ who are the elect of God. They is family; they is Church by Father.
They also whom You gave Me. All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out (John 6:37).
How do we know that we are one of they? We know because we chose to know, because not being with Jesus is simply not in our consideration. We know because we seize hold with all presumption of faith.
Two Mighty Effects
Jesus’ Desire has two mighty effects upon us, two effects inside of which we live forever and out from which flows all things of the Kingdom. 1. THAT –> they may be with Me where I am. 2. THAT –> they may behold My glory which You have given Me.
I see more and more how intricately the Word God speaks is woven together in a fabric of wondrous patterns and beauty. 1. In that day you shall know that I am IN the Father and you in Me and I in you (John 14:20). 2. … not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us (Romans 8:18).
With Jesus In Father
What does it mean to be WITH Jesus IN Father? We saw this pattern in Symmorphy II: Essence, that whatever the Father is in Himself, Jesus is that same thing in the Father.
The Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does (John 5:19-20). For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself (John 5:26).
We do not see this relationship as events in time, but rather as All Here Now, continuous and personal, the dynamic structure of God’s Being and Heart.
We Also
The result, the effect coming every moment out of Jesus’ intense and unlimited DESIRE towards us is that you and I are utterly with Jesus IN Father. Whatever Jesus is in Father, we are also.
For you and me to share heart with God is not something dreamed up by a 59-year-old has-been such as myself, but the intense DESIRE of Him who creates and sustains all things. Sharing Heart with God is real and literal. Our being IN Father with Jesus always comes first in this dynamic synergy that is the Being of God, symmorphy, John 14:20.
You and I are WITH Jesus IN all that is Father.
Meditate on This
This is not something that I can show you what it means. Jesus is the One who must do that. Meditate on this thought: “Jesus, I am WITH You IN Father, as You are All that Father is inside Himself. Jesus, show me what You are IN Father, that You might be that very same thing IN me.”
You see, the first effect of Jesus’ immense Desire cannot exist without the second effect following immediately. THAT –> they may behold My glory. We have seen, earlier in this prayer, that Jesus gives this glory to us and that He is glorified IN us.
Beholding His Glory
“Beholding His glory” does not mean our standing around looking at some glowing Thing outside of ourselves and saying, “Wow,” over and over forever.
The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. “Revealed” is apocalypse, taking off the cover so that what has been there all along can be seen, now, by all. To behold His glory is to see that same glory revealed now through us. And I in you is always coming out of you in Me.
We see Jesus’ glory coming out of us as we are first WITH Jesus IN Father.
Tithemi Psuche
What is Jesus’ glory? Two things. 1. Laying down His life to reveal Father (the Work). 2. Revealing Father by laying down His life (the Heart).
But we saw in Symmorphy I: Purpose, that the words “laid down life” do not necessarily speak of physical death. Yes, Jesus’ physical death was one thing inside those words, but the words tithemi psuche also mean “set forth His soul.” We are speaking of the Work of the Kingdom through us. By this we know love, because He “set forth His soul” for us. And we also ought to “set forth our soul” for the brethren (1 John 3:16).
Setting Forth Our Souls
I don’t really know what tithemi psuche, laying down our lives, setting forth our souls for the brethren, means. Yet this is the glory of Jesus, the glory of the Kingdom, revealed, apocalypsed, through us as we behold His glory. I have given two sessions, Session 20: Life Laid Down, and Session 21: Love Poured Out, that come at the turning point into our full and final victory over the beast, over the world, and over death. My goal is to somehow grapple with what beholding Jesus’ glory now revealed through us might mean.
The Kingdom is beholding Jesus’ glory now revealed through us always coming out of our being WITH Jesus IN Father.
A Lake of Fire
Let’s place this understanding, and ourselves, back into that all-consuming lake of fire that is the passion and DESIRE of this Jesus who fills our hearts with His glory and who lives now as us. Father, I DESIRE.

The Greek definers at biblehub.com point out that this word, “I will” closely corresponds with the Greek word for faith, pistis, in the life of the believer. Jesus desires –><– we desire. Jesus wills –><– we will. Jesus intends –><– we intend. Face to face, heart in Heart.
With
Look at the difference between John 14:20 and John 17:24. In John 14:20, Jesus is IN Father, we are IN Jesus, and Jesus is IN us, but in John 17:24, we are WITH Jesus IN Father.
“With” is the Greek, meta, a common preposition, but pointing to the change or after-effects of being WITH, according to the context in which the WITH occurs, that is, IN Father. WITH means that as Jesus relates with Father, so we relate with Father; as Jesus is in Himself whatever the Father is in Himself, so also are we.
It is to the Father that Jesus brings us, to the dynamic ALL HERE NOW Being and Person of God. Father is the source of the glory flowing out of us.
Union and Glory
That they may share with Me all that I am as I share with Father all that He is – Covenant. That they may behold My glory flowing out of them to establish throughout the entire universe the full and open knowledge of Father – Kingdom. Everything we might consider and experience regarding Covenant and Kingdom is always coming out of the intense and all-consuming will and desire of Jesus.
And considering this union and glory inside the Kingdom-birthing prayer of John 17, the words that create all things new, cements us utterly into this unmovable, unshakeable rock that is Father revealed through us.
