10. The Generation of Life

Audio Only:

The most important metaphor in the Bible and in creation is the generation of life. How does new life spring forth? At the center of this metaphor can be found Jesus’ words in John 3, “You must be conceived from above.” “Conception” is the first part of the generation of life.

Even though the generation of life fills both sides of heaven-earth, the Bible uses primarily the generation of plant life and the generation of human life as its metaphors. And both of those metaphors point to one reality, and that reality is the generation of God-Life inside of humans.

The Thread of Life. What is life? And how do we obtain it? The answers to these two questions fill John’s thoughts. Yet we have to understand what kind of a writer John is.

John does not give straight, logical argument; rather, He weaves his thoughts through the narrative and together with the metaphors he uses. Having all that John wrote as well as a concordance, it’s a simple thing for us to unravel the one thread we want, that is, the answers to these two questions. Yet in doing so, we keep in full view the narrative as well as the metaphor, so that we can understand that thread of life.

The Source of Life. Inside of the source is the Word, and the Word is actively towards God, and God is actively the word. He [the Word] is inside of the beginning and source towards God. All through Him become, and without Him not even one thing becomes that has become. Inside of Him is life actively, and this life is the light of humans. This light is made visible inside of the darkness, and the darkness does not seize hold of it… Yet many do seize hold of Him, and to them He gives the authority and right to be sons born out from God, even to those believing into His name, those who are conceived… out from God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us… (John 1:1-5 & 11-14).

Seven Key Points. From this introduction, we obtain several key pieces of understanding.

1. Word is the source of everything.
2. Word is a Person.
3. Word, that is, this Person, is dynamic energeia, acting upon everything, actively towards God and towards men.
4. Life is found inside of this Person who is active Word.
5. Life becomes visible to us, yet it is not yet ours.
6. We must actively seize hold of that life for ourselves.
7. As we exercise our right to life, so we are conceived out from God as His genetic sons.

Spirit and Word as a Person. Before the end of Chapter 1, John has used both narrative (the story of John the Baptist and Jesus’ first disciples) and metaphor (the Spirit as a dove descending) to tie two more things into this life equation.

8. Spirit and Word are always together in a Person.
9. Life is found by being with this Man where He is.

Now, every one of these points is important in understanding what life is, but point 9 is the most important. We must walk with this Man who is life, Spirit and Word together, where He is.

What Is Life? Yet our picture is not complete, for we must go to the very end of this thread answering our two questions in order to know how everything in-between actually fits.

What is life? – This is age-unfolding life, to know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent (John 17:3). How do we obtain life? – Abide inside of Me and I inside of you. – Know that I am inside of the Father and you inside of Me and I inside of you (John 15:4 & 14:20).

Yet this Life, and obtaining this Life, is very personal. And so another thought must be included.

A Personal God. The one loving Me will be loved by My Father; And I will love him and will appear and make Myself visible to him. – And My Father will love him, and we will come to and will make Our home with him in intimate closeness (John 14:21 & 23).

Now, in my writing, I have presented the second of these two lines as the thing that has held my heart since I was thirty. However, I may have forgotten how much the first line ruled in my understanding. You see, this was the line that formed the basis of my covenant with God when I left move community, that Jesus would become real and visible to me.

Seeing Jesus for Real. I set my heart on having an experience with Jesus in which He would show Himself to me, personally, and I would be forever transformed. Yet because I had missed John 14:20 in its entirety, in my early thirties, I held an image of Jesus coming to me as outwardly visible. I know now that such a thing could not be of faith, nor could it be real, for it is Jesus inside of me who must become visible to me. And, in fact, since my forties, it is Jesus inside of me becoming utterly real to me to which I have held.

Knowing God as Father. Here are some more points for our list.

10. Life is knowing God as our Father.
11. We know God through knowing Jesus Sent into us.
12. Life is knowing Father and Son at home inside our hearts, sharing life with us in intimate closeness.
13. We possess this life as we live inside of Jesus and He inside of us.

Then, John also presents Jesus as the Way to life, but Matthew shared Jesus’ words, that this Way is PRESSED IN. John does include the two sides of that press.

The Press from Each Side. One wall of pressure coming against us as we walk this Way into life is the world – the world hates you. The purpose of the world is to seek to distract you, to get you to step aside from living inside of Jesus and Jesus inside of you.

But the second press is best expressed in John’s epistle, although it is very much present in the gospel. – If anyone should say, “I love God,” and should be hating his brother, he is fake [dishonest]. Indeed, the [one] not loving his brother, whom he has seen, is not capable of loving God whom he has not seen (1 John 4:20).

The Entrance into Life. And so here are our two final points holding this thread of truth tightly from both ends.

14. The world opposes you to distract you from life.
15. To enter into life, you must take your brother with you.

But you see how this is all the metaphor of the bringing forth of life. Conceived of God, and all that being conceived of God is and means, comes first. Then, the pressed in way, as a baby being pressed out of the womb into LIFE, comes last. It is the in-between, then, that concerns us (and John) the most, the development of the child in the womb.

Conception to Birthing. Now, of truth, John Chapter 7, rivers of Spirit flowing out, is also the end of the Way, the birthing into LIFE. And so, as I have said, it’s as if John starts the thread again in Chapter 10 to close it out again in power in Chapter 17.

This page in The Jesus Secret II is not concerned about the press or the birthing, however. Rather, it is the generation of life. And the generation of life is the initial conception and the first trimester in the womb. And, of course, the more I think of these things in all that John says, the more points I see should be added.

The Boxes on the Page. I think I am focused enough now, however, to create the boxes for The Jesus Secret II page. The first two boxes are personalized explanations, “Divine Procreation,” and “Word & Spirit Together.” The second two boxes are definitions, not from Webster’s, but my own, “Transubstantiation,” and “Metamorphy.”

But, you see, this is a real Jesus living inside of us, imparting Himself to us every moment and speaking His words inside our own hearts. For that reason, the topic “The Generation of Life” must include a “Jesus Secret” box, Jesus speaking personally to me.

Conceived of God. Here is the central and the simplest statement of divine procreation in the Bible. – Christ lives inside of my heart through faith. Christ comes to us out from God as Word anointed by Spirit. We respond, as Mary did, with “Let it be to me,” even while believing we have received. Then, that Personal Spirit Word, Christ Jesus, enters through our faith into our hearts and we are “born again,” that is, conceived of God.

Now it is up to that Word to connect Himself as DNA to every part of our human form and our humanity – transubstantiation. Yet He does so as we acknowledge Him and every Word He is inside of us – metamorphy.

Divine Procreation. God intends me to possess His own life as mine, that is, age-unfolding life. He does this by planting His own Sperm into me, the Lord Jesus Christ, as every Word God speaks. Christ lives inside of my heart through faith.

This Word, the Lord Jesus, is the only Seed-Kind of God by which I am conceived. As I receive every Word God speaks through “Let it be to me,” this Word unfolds and expands rapidly as the definition of my soul.

I live in full organic union with every Word God speaks, with a living, personal, Spirit Word, the Lord Jesus. In this way the life of God is planted inside of me as my very and only life.

The World Hates You. It is sad that the primary attack of the world against such a thing as being “conceived of God” comes through our fellow Christians. We know that being like God is being human, a gentle touch, a kind word, lifting others up. Yet they accuse us of a devilish “God,” of wanting to be superior, of thinking more highly of ourselves than of anyone else, of pushing people around and putting on a show. We are not little “gods,” that is, little devils, we are humans loving one another, that is, the Father revealed.

The Seed Planted. John has already called Jesus the only Seed-Kind. The Word is the Seed of God planted in the womb. Word without Spirit cannot be received into the heart, but is rough and burdensome. Spirit without Word feels exciting, but has no life in it to bring forth.

The Jesus Secret II gives us just a portion of all the Bible Word that, having entered us as Christ Jesus, would attach itself to every part of our humanity.

This Word that is the Living Sperm of God comes into us and develops in us only by the means of Spirit and Spirit works Life in us only out from Word. The Seed is Spirit and Word always together.

Word & Spirit Together. The Sperm of God entering into me is Spirit and Word always together. I never know the Son of God apart from the Spirit of God, nor the Spirit apart from the Son. This Word that is the Living Sperm of God comes into me and develops in me only by the means of Spirit, and Spirit works Life in me only out from Word.

The Words that are Jesus, being continuously spoken in me and by me are Spirit and they are life, the very life of God, now my life as well. This living personal Spirit Word, then, generates life all through me.

Jesus’ Part. When Jesus said that His flesh is true food and that His blood is true drink, He meant that the task of transferring His substance to us as our substance, that is, Christ living as us, was entirely up to Him. He meant that, as we partake of Him, speaking the same Word made personal as us, so we would become what we eat and drink.

This certainty that it is Jesus who causes Himself to be us, our substance and only reality, is based on the sworn oath of God; it is based on Covenant. This transfer of substance causes no change in our outward appearance, thus it comes entirely through faith.

Transubstantiation. Christ my Redeemer said that His flesh is true food offered to me as bread. As I consecrate my life to receive every Word Jesus is, there takes place a change of the whole substance of my body into the substance of the body of Christ and of the whole substance of my life into the substance of His blood, with no change in my outward human appearance.

This transfer of substance from Jesus to me, this transubstantiation, is the continuous work of the Lord Jesus living in my heart. He alone causes His life to be mine. He alone causes His Spirit to be one with my spirit and His flesh to be my flesh. Christ Jesus lives as me.

Our Part. John’s word is “receive”; Paul’s word is “acknowledge.” We put them together to have the full meaning. It does no good to see the Life or to know the Word. We must actively receive it and actively acknowledge it as us. Life is knowing the Father in intimate closeness through receiving and acknowledging everything Jesus is doing inside of us, in connecting us with the Father. Jesus can be all that He is, but without our active role, He cannot be our life, personal to us.

Acknowledging every good Word inside of us inside of Christ Jesus is how we spend time with Him.

Metamorphy. Metamorphy is that transfiguration I undergo as I spend time with the Lord Jesus, receiving Him as my life and acknowledging every good word He is, made personal as me.

This transfiguration does not alter my human form, but rather, it places the kind gentleness of Jesus upon me, as seen by others. Yet this outward face of Jesus, now my face as well, comes out from the singing of my soul as I am in perfect tune and harmony with the pattern of expression that is Christ Jesus, the revelation of the Father.

My part is to eat of Christ, to spend time with Him as He lives inside my heart. My part is the confidence of faith.

Life Is Always Personal. In Chapter 10, John begins his second rendition of life, that is, the Way to Life, with one of the most important confessions of faith in the Bible. “He calls me by name.” “  Daniel  , (put your own name in the blank), I want you here with Me inside of our Father forever.”

Life is always personal, a personal Father, a personal Jesus, and a personal me. God’s one is always many together as one, with all honor given to each. For this reason, a Word of the generation of life must be Jesus speaking Himself personally as us, the Jesus Secret.

The Jesus Secret. My dear one, you believe in God, believe also in Me. I am the life of God sent into you to be your life as well. I am every Word our Father speaks; believe that I am. I am your active Savior and your closest friend. I am real, and I really do live inside of you. Believe in Me. Yet I am also part of you, for you are coming out from Me. And I am the One who actively causes you to be My substance, the very substance of God-Life, regardless of outward appearance.

Age-Unfolding Life. This massive growth of life caused by the combined work of Jesus’ transubstantiation and our metamorphy will increase inside of us forever. There is no end of Word, and there is no end of its meaning. This is why age-unfolding is simply the best adjective describing the very life of God, now our life as well.

My tomorrow is Word inside of God that has never yet been spoken. The unfolding of each step of our lives is exthesis, the unfolding of new and wondrous Word, in perfect harmony with all Word already established. We are God’s entrance inside creation.

Reading for Next Time. Finally we arrive at John Chapter 7. The next session will be one of three on the third ruling verse of the Bible. In the first page and session we will look at Jesus’ words in context. In the second page and session, we will consider the meaning of “Drink of Me.” Then, in the third page and session, we will expand on Rivers of Spirit flowing out. So – read all of Chapter 7.

“If anyone thirsts, let him come towards Me and drink. The one who believes into me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Rivers of living water will overflow out from his belly [his womb, his innermost being]”

Let’s Pray Together. As we synergeo with God, let’s turn one another’s hearts and the hearts of those individuals close around us, to the Father, for this also is inside our authority. Think of one, but also think of several.

“Father, we do not push people around, nor try to control them. Nonetheless, you have given to us the authority to turn the hearts of others towards you as the wind turns a sail into the safe harbor. Father, let our Devoted Spirit blow upon the heart of my son-in-law, M- (put your own names in the blank), to cause such honesty and such thirst to know You alone to rise inside His heart, and what You mean by what You say.

“And in the same way, our Father, we ask that You blow upon the hearts of my brother’s children, upon J-, upon R-, upon N-, and upon C-, that there would arise such longing inside to know You alone. And in the same way, Oh God All-Carrying, I ask that you move upon the hearts of Maureen’s and my children, upon Kyle, upon Johanna, upon Katrina, and upon James, that they would long to know You, that they would desire Your Word alone to be written upon their hearts.

“It’s not by our abilities, Oh Father, but by the precious Spirit, that hearts are won utterly for Jesus. And in the authority You have given to Jesus who is our life, we stand in all certainty that You are even now doing all that we ask. Let it be so; it is so.”
