1. Are You Ready? - What Will You Do?
I typically do not engage in “what ifs” because they are unprofitable. But when presented the right way, a “what if” can take us into a line of thinking that enables us to look at the truth about ourselves head on.
Consider this line. – I will give to My two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, enclothed with sackcloth (Spoken by Jesus in Revelation 11:3).
For argument’s sake, let’s assume these are two human individuals alive today.
Here is our what if. – What if God’s two witnesses of Revelation 11 began their prophetic ministry, of truth and for real, this very afternoon, what would be your response? Would you call them heretics? Or would you obey them?
I don’t think there would be a third choice.
Let’s begin our thinking with the heretic choice. Revelation 11 continues on to suggest that the majority of people who think of themselves as Christians will reject them. This is the normal response to anyone whom God sends. – He came to His own and His own received Him not.
Of course, the first thing everyone thinks is – who are they? A popular response is that these are Moses and Elijah sent back to earth by God. Why? – Because God did big things back then, but the Church has been a complete wimp.
I do not believe that it will be Moses and Elijah for the simple fact that they would not understand our world. Jesus spent thirty years growing up that He might know intimately the world inside of which He had come. That is God’s way.
God uses present people. More than that, it’s the same argument as the Pharisees presented. “If we had been back then when Jeremiah was alive, we would have listened to him.” But they proved themselves liars by rejecting Jesus, who was one of them, the only kind God sends.
However, I no longer have a problem with the thought of Moses and Elijah, partly because I know them a lot better than I used to.
Consider this picture. – And He was metamorphosed before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” (Matthew 17:2-5).
This was before Jesus’ resurrection and subsequent return as a Life-Giving Spirit on the Day of Pentecost.
You can be sure of this. As Abraham received Jesus into himself, becoming the first person born again, the first Christian in heaven and earth, Moses and Elijah were right there in the tussle just behind Abraham, much more than a bunch of schoolboys lined up to be released into JOY.
I would not have a problem if it were, in fact, Moses and Elijah, because I know that they are born again and filled with the Spirit. I know that Jesus is alive inside their hearts, that their connection with God is only through the Lord Jesus Christ, and that they live out from Paul’s gospel right now, regardless of where they are. There is no other possibility.
If it were, in fact, Moses and Elijah, I would trust them with my life.
But again, the patterns of God are clear throughout the history of the Bible, that is not how God works. Let us, then, assume that these two men (we will assume they are men, and again, we are also assuming that these are just two individuals), let us assume that they are alive today, that they grew up in the same world in which we live and that they are fully current in understanding all present world reality.
Yet here is an interesting thought, which we will not develop further. Will they understand the world as it actually is? Or will they be engaged under any of the various lies that are fervently believed to be true by almost all?
I am acquainted with or aware of a vast range of Christian sects, beliefs, and practices, all over the world and throughout history. I am not aware of any group or teaching that has a place in their theology or practice for the two witnesses as they begin their prophecy. What will these two teach? And how will they fit into Christian groups? That is, how will each and every group respond?
(This letter is not meant to be orderly. I intend to bounce around.)
Let’s think about Christian groups. The estimates vary, but worldwide, there are about 1,400 million Catholics, about 800 million Protestants, and about 250 million Orthodox, close to 2.5 billion “Christians” in all. The Catholics are all under one hierarchical control, now Pope Leo XIV. The Orthodox consider themselves to be a sharing of equals, with Bartholomew, the Bishop of Constantinople (Istanbul), the “first among equals.”
The Protestants are split into thousands of differing sects, from letter of the word ritualists to radical deeper truth preachers. They are called “Protestant,” because they do not acknowledge the Pope. Of truth, the Anglican church is the largest. The head and vicar of the Anglican church is King Charles III.
When we say, “100 million or more believers in Jesus,” we are referencing two types of people right now. We first recognize that a large portion of that final glorious church will come rushing into Christ at the last minute, compelled out from every highway and hedge, and go straight into the celebration of Tabernacles. Yet the majority of that number, more likely, are right now somewhere among the 2.5 billion divided among these three large groupings.
Will the two witnesses go to Rome and submit themselves and their ministry to the Pope? Will the Pope cast off his popery and follow them? We then ask these same two questions towards every single authority figure and teacher of doctrine in all three realms of Christian expression.
But we especially ask it of you and me.
Will the two witnesses come to you, so that you might instruct them in the real “truth,” your perception of the bottom-line meaning of everything? Will you cast off your own thoughts and ways that you might run after their instructions? Or will you ascertain that they have nothing to do with you, and continue in whatever you are thinking and doing?
But the million-dollar question is, what about me?
Remember that we are continuing inside our “what if” scenario so that we might get right at the bottom-line of our own hearts.
Before I respond to that question, let’s set out five first absolutes about these two men, whom we are suggesting, begin their ministry of 3 ½ years this afternoon.
1. They are sent from God; which means they are “apostolic.”
2. They speak the truth of God. This cannot be anything less than that their words are equal to the writers of the Bible.
3. They connect with God through Jesus. – “NO ONE comes to the Father except through Me.” That means that it is impossible that they would relate with God through the old covenant of death.
4. They will not be taken by any of the many lies of this world, but they will expose that which is false.
5. Their word contradicts in some way everything ascribed to be “true” by present Christians inside that large group of 2.5 billion.
In short, they SHATTER every limitation placed upon God and what He means for “the Christian life” held by all Christians everywhere.
Let’s get back to me. – What would I do if God’s two witnesses of Revelation 11 began their prophetic ministry, of truth and for real, this very afternoon, what would be my response?
It would be foolish for me to proclaim “myself.” God alone knows what He has planted inside of me in the dark and lonely places when I called upon Him through the years.
At the Headwaters convention, in 1979, I cried out to God, “God, is this of You?” And He answered me, “This ministry is of Me, I have sent them.” The one preaching at that moment was Brother Joe McCord. Of all the ministries in that fellowship, he is the only one to have read my books, and he has preached out from what I have written, just a bit.
In November of 1985, I was at home in Oregon, having “left the move.” But the Word God had planted inside of me did not let me rest, and I had come to despair that my life was going nowhere. In my despair, I picked up the Annie visions once again. When I read the vision titled “A Most Holy Thing,” my heart was gripped by the fierce awfulness that God was doing something in the earth and I was not there. Three months later I again drove north into the Canadian wilderness, into the frozen landscape, that I might place myself, once again, in the midst of the fire of God.
I did not leave that fellowship because I felt that I “had been deceived” or because I felt in any way “unsafe.” I trusted the leadership of the move with my life, and I would do the same again, without hesitation. I left that fellowship because they were no longer taking me where I will go, to know God my Father at Home in my heart.
But – inside our wild speculation – would the two witnesses come to me, to ask me what they should teach and how they should understand the world, so as not to be caught under its lies?
No, they would not.
What then would I do with all that I teach, with all I have written? The truth is, the two witnesses, sent from God, would not be paying any attention to me or to anything I have written.
We are speaking of Mt. Moriah. We are speaking of the loss of everything most precious to us, offered to God, that He might do with it what He wishes, even if it be nothing.
“Oh God, my Father, do what You will with me. I am entirely inside of Your Hand; let me not be found anywhere else.”
Let us continue.
Will these two witnesses be teaching and prophesying the Tree of Life, or will they present the Nicene Christian take out from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? Will their words be filled with Jesus, or will He be left in the background, shoved off into the distance, as is found in most? What about the big verses of the Gospel, the ones most everyone skip right over, will the two witnesses ignore those as well?
Will they preach legalism? Will they call for “obedience” that must be fake? Will they accuse? Will they proclaim punishment? Will they put it all into “heaven and hell” after we die?
Others would word things differently, yet I know that almost all Christian teachers and leaders right now would assert without question that the two witnesses will preach nothing more than an enhanced and more powerful version of what they themselves already teach.
Let me put this in front of us. It could well be that whatever Jesus meant by, “I will give to My two witnesses and they will prophesy,” would begin its fulness this October of 2025.
I have believed for 48 years that the sons of God will order the events of the completion of the Age of God’s Patience and the birthing of the Age of Tabernacles. The dragon and the beast, the kings of the earth, all make a big show, but they have no more strength; they order nothing.
Would the two witnesses go to the Middle East? Would they place their covering of protection over the suffering people of Gaza? Would they show them the Lord Jesus Christ? Would they lead them into a place of safety and provision away from the head of the beast that was wounded unto death yet now “lives?”
If they were to do such a thing, it would SHATTER everyone’s definition of the gospel and of Christianity. And that’s just for starters.
Think about this. Thousands of people heard Jesus speak and witnessed the miracles that came through Him. Yet out of all of those, only 120 placed themselves where they MUST BE, wherever God would show Himself next, that is, in the upper room with the eleven disciples. That’s 109 other people. We can guess at a number of those names, but we don’t know for sure. They would have included women among the men.
My God! The Messiah of God walked among us, died and rose again, and only a few CARED? Yes, many of those thousands would flow into the Church from Pentecost on, but my question is – what do you WANT if not God now come upon His people?
Now we come to the second “million dollar question.” Would these two witnesses teach and prophesy an enhanced and more powerful version of what I teach? Would they place the Lord Jesus Christ upon His Church? Would they call God into our world? Would they be and walk just like the Lord Jesus Christ? Would they seek and save all that was lost?
Would they teach our precious union with Christ? Would they place before all Christians the immediate goal of knowing the Father at Home in our hearts through knowing Jesus Sent into us? Would they call all who would run into Christian Community now, as the disciples did on the Day of Pentecost?
What happened to any Israelites who chose to stay in Egypt in disobedience to Moses? We know from history that the Amalekites who fought Israel were just one band of many and that other bands of Amalekites swept into a shattered and defenseless Egypt and took all as plunder, the ruined end of the Old Kingdom.
What happened to any Judeans who refused to follow the disciples of Jesus into the Christian gospel? We know from history that the majority died in a bloodbath, some say by their own hand rather than giving way to the Romans. And that those who escaped went to Babylon to become the writers of anti-Christ.
What happens to Christians alive today who refuse to give heed to the two witnesses? We know that the devil comes down to them filled with great FURY.
Suddenly I feel sick for all my Christian brethren. God is no incidental matter. “I believe this and you believe that” cannot stand as a defense for any sleeping believer.
TODAY is the greatest of all displays of the demonstration of God, far greater than during Moses’ day, far greater than the time of the early church. God does not show Himself mighty just to put on a show. He does so in order to PERSUADE His people to run into reality, to run into LIFE!
I was told the story of Sam Fife arriving at the Watertown community farm in upper state New York and finding the gardens full of weeds, the chores undone, and all the brethren sitting on their duff. He chased them all, by the mighty and anointed authority that rested upon him, out of their cabins and from their tables, and out into the gardens to get to work, including all the leading ministries of the community, including the sister who was telling us the story.
Will God chase you into REAL, or are you too drugged on “go to heaven after I die” that you cannot respond?
Brother Sam did not “send” us into the gardens during the short time he was at the Citra Community, he LED us there, doing the hardest part of the labor the whole day while we worked with him. He moved in the power of a vision of the Church, the New Jerusalem, arising for real out from heaven upon this earth, drawing her sustenance from both, prophesying Christ in the Spirit while planting the gardens and hoeing the weeds.
I have never let go of that heavenly vision. I have tried my best to grow a garden though it has been difficult. I prophesy Christ in the only way I am able to do, though few receive what I share. The cry of my heart continues. – If I forget thee, Oh Jerusalem, then let my right hand forget her cunning. And let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth if I prefer thee not above my chief joy.
I do not have the wisdom to know whether “the two witnesses” of Revelation 11 are two individual men alive today OR if that vision is a metaphor of the ministry of Christ through us as His firstfruits, Christ giving Himself to many.
I now know this. I could never be a member of the second fulfillment if my heart were not prepared in full surrender to the first. Abraham became the entrance of God into our world because he gave back to God all, in all costliness.
You see, IF “the two witnesses” were a corporate ministry, men and women of Word and of Spirit together, all the issues I have raised in this letter thus far would remain the same for all Christians and even for us. And I have raised only a small part of the contention of God with those who call themselves by Jesus.
This is part of what God means by “sackcloth.” Nothing through us can impact other people except it has first impacted us to full measure. No one “leads” except they first go before. Before the invention of the musket, true commanders were at the front of all danger. As Peter said, we lead, not by control, but by example.
We are the first in all victory over death and over all that opposes; we are the last in coming out from death, for we must carry that last little one safely all the way through.
The “two witnesses” are not an anomaly; they are the normal Christian life. Jesus said, “I will give to My two witnesses.” He meant, “I will give Myself, all that I am.” Where else would we ever want to be than receiving from Jesus all that He is and then being just like Him, God through us into our world?
Whether “two” or many, the pattern remains the same. A Pure Spirit Word coming through them must IMPACT all who would know Jesus into a RUN out from the lethargy of good versus evil INTO the practicality of Church. And that impact must begin with thousands of ministries sealed in their foreheads before proceeding into the full Church, a great multitude, a woman clothed with the sun.
So – if this be true, we can make further assertions concerning the days ahead.
First, the time of “messing around” is over. The release of the knowledge of a universe that is only LIFE comes rapidly, in the direction of the calling of God.
Second, as part of the end of “messing around,” there will be a massive assertion of God’s Spirit into the heavens all around millions of believers at once, following the direction of God’s ministry and coming quickly on the heels of Michael and his angels, who are actually the ones who bring the first end to “messing around.”
You see, SEEING the world as good versus evil, along with all the psychotic nonsense and wicked deeds that come out from such hostility against God, is without meaning. It’s nothing more than a delusion of the human mind.
– Look and see, all things are brand new, all things are now out from God.
Third, the “demonstration of the Spirit and power,” and the “signs of apostleship” will be like nothing ever before seen in human history. Yes, this is the final one percent of the final one percent of being like Jesus, but God must get the attention of those who must RUN into the Church.
Moses and Elijah do have a role to play, that is, as the patterns of God. For there must be a departure “into the wilderness to meet with God,” a dramatic departure of deliverance inside of which even the earth gives itself to protect the Church. And there must be that Elijah moment which comes in a blinding flash to each one called into the Feast. – Do I love Jesus or not?
Fourth, at least a third of all Christian leaders today, pastors, priests, and theologians, will hate, with much attempted violence, those who are impacting Christians and this world in such a way. Gene Edward’s A Tale of Three Kings will become of great importance to those who are giving themselves to the Father for the sake of many.
You see, how can Christians loving one another with pure hearts fervently inside all Gospel Word fulfilled happen? – except it happen.
The question is – Are you ready? The question is – What will you do?
One final note. The Church is a complete whole, one body together, filled with One Jesus. Yet the Church is many, millions of individuals who must relate together in some outward form.
Christ is a many-membered body.
God has an order for the intrarelationships among the many members of His Church. This is a living order, LIFE, which means movement and flow. An essential element inside God’s order is the word “covering.”
This is a word that I placed on the shelf and there have mostly left it for many years. God is bringing it off of my shelf, bringing it to me once again. He has placed again in my heart a yearning for His “covering,” whatever He means by that.
To a large degree, this series of letters, coming through my present earnest desire to be part of what God is doing, is an unfolding of what God might mean for us inside the term, “covering.”
