13. Overcome and Subdue

Union with Christ means that you and I have been symmorphosed together, utterly merged together with the Victorious Conqueror, the Great Hero of God's Story. Jesus does nothing apart from us, His body. His great task of setting creation free and bringing all things back into submission to His Father, He fulfills only in full union together with us.

But too often, "overcome and subdue" have been presented as some form of human achievement, some great "doing" that also seems to exist right there, just beyond our reach. Because we want to be with Jesus with all of our hearts, we listen to what the preachers tell us we must do in order to "overcome." But when we try to do what they say, all that happens is that we fall flat on our faces in the mud.

We cannot. BUT - we will not be kept away from Jesus. We are as determined to live only in Him as God is determined to make it so.

What, then, does overcome really mean?

Lesson 13.1 Gates of Pearls places before our eyes God's picture of the entrance into His triumphant city, that is, what you and I do with all the failures and all the pain of our lives.

Lesson 13.3 Authority moves out from walking in the speaking of Christ holding the Lamb's Blood in one hand and the Lamb's Cross in the other to the authority of Christ revealed now through us upon this planet. In this lesson, all the authority verses of the New Testament flow in to find their place inside our hearts, the Mercy Seat of God.
