6. Summoned into God

© Daniel Yordy – 2020

I am so grateful, so incredibly grateful. It took five chapters for us to discover the topic of this series, but we have done so. We now know what we must know.

“My heart is the Entrance of God.”

Now we will slow down and spend time on every part of what this really means, for we cannot go forth as the Ark of the Covenant until we have absorbed into ourselves all that the Holy of Holies means, until we know.

In this letter I want to spend time on one-half of one incredible verse. I think that we will be able to know this mind-boggling reality now, for the first time.

Romans 8:28b. – These are those who are being called according to the finest details of His pro-thesis, that is, His set-forth purpose.

We will know how to call God into His creation through our shared Hheart with Him only as we know how God calls us into Himself.

God summons us into Himself that we might summon God into His creation.

I can assure you that in making that statement, there are no socks on my feet and no hairs on my head, for they are all quite blown away.

This, then, is the first of three closely related topics. First, our being summoned into God according to the finest details of His Pro-Thesis, second, Christ written as Spirit Word upon our hearts, and third, bringing Jesus into our minds.

These three will not be consecutive, however, for I will likely bounce all around as the blowing of the wind.

First, what is a word? – A word is the embodiment of an idea. A word is a metaphor; it is not the thing itself.

In the same way, Jesus is the embodiment of the Father, giving to the Father an appearance by which others can know Him, but Jesus is not Himself the Father. – “The Father is greater and mightier than I.”

A word comes to us in two forms, either as sound waves through the air, generated by a voice or as marks on a paper. In their primary form, words enter us through the hearing of our ears. Then, even though words as marks on paper enter our knowing through the eyes, nonetheless, we still conceive of our response to those words as “hearing” them.

The verb “to call” or “to summon” (the Greek kaleo) requires the existence of three things. First is a voice that speaks. Second is the passage of the words through the air. And third is the hearing of those words by the one called.

Now, we know that the words that God speaks, are themselves a living thing, they are alive.

That means they contain Spirit as part of their breath, for it is the Spirit that gives life.

But the quality of Spirit, though life itself, is as the Wind. You do not know which way the wind will blow. Word, on the other hand, is concreate and solid. Word is as the laws of physics, definite and unmoving, faithful as a Rock.

And the Word became flesh [earth] and dwelt among us – God manifest in the flesh.

This is why we must know Word as that which is written, for it is fixed and unchangeable. And we know of it like we know the laws of physics; indeed, the laws of physics come only out from that spoken and living Word – sustaining all things by the Word of His power.

We learn the laws of physics in two ways, first by ongoing practical experience and second by much study. Learning physics in school takes a lot of work.

Here is where I am going – according to the finest details of.

The finest details of what? – God’s Pro-Thesis.

“Pro,” when referring to God, means original source, the core of what God IS, the fount of all things created.

Inside of God, separate from the act of creation and all that is creation, there is a THESIS.

That Thesis is Word, logos, yes, but it is a specific kind of word. That is, logos also means “reason” and “account,” The Thesis is a detailed layout of all things that will become written, that is, fixed in concrete, before anything becomes. Our English word “thesis” is the Greek word tithemi, a purpose set forth and then established.

Thesis (Websters 1926):
1. A thing laid down; a statement; a proposition; specifically, a position or proposition which a person advances and offers to maintain… by argument.

2. An essay or dissertation written upon a specific or definite theme; especially an essay presented by a candidate for a degree.

3. Hence: Logic. An affirmation or enunciation not proved but assumed as a premise; a postulate.

Here’s the thing. Every detail in this dictionary definition fits the Lord Jesus Christ in critical ways. Jesus was God’s proposition not yet proven true until He walked in the flesh.

Now, I am quite familiar with the writing of doctoral dissertations in the educational field. A doctoral thesis is around 90 pages filled with specific detail, details governed by critical rules.
A dissertation has three parts. The first part is the proposal – “This is what I assert and which I intend to prove.” The second part is the literature review. This was my part and I have written more than a dozen of them. The writing of each one was the equivalent of taking a complete graduate level course on the topic. Then, the third part is the proof, the specific detailing of the evidence as to why that original proposal is correct.

I wrote only one “first part,” that is the proposal, just enough to know clearly how it works and what must be included. I have not done any of the final-proof section of a dissertation, but I know what is included and how it works.

The first part is setting forth the proposal – tithemi.

God’s Pro-Thesis is His proposal in the form of Words, words that, when spoken, ARE the Lord Jesus Christ.

All through Him became, and without Him not even one thing became that has become (John 1:3). – God… has …spoken us inside His Son… through whom He formed the ages, who, being the radiant expression of His glory and the character or exact marking of His substance… (Hebrews 1:1-3).

See that you make all things according to the pattern (Hebrews 8:5).

Jesus as Word is the character, the marks on the page or hewn into stone, of God’s substance. Everything that becomes, then, gains its shape, it’s makeup, it’s purpose, and it’s direction from those words.

Yet this Word, this proposal of God from the beginning, written out in concrete and specific detail, is a living Word. It is alive.

Living indeed is the Word of God, and energeoing, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing through as far as the distribution of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and judging the pondering and purposes of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).

– Are being called. –

In the next letter I want to explore what I am learning about God and about myself as I write the chapters of the story of my life. All my life, God has summoned me into Himself. And He has done so with words in every form that God’s Words take, earth, air, fire, and water.

Then, the letter after that is titled “The Jesus Secret.” I am referring, not necessarily to my books or my ways of wording things, but rather to the reasons behind the inconceivable IMPORTANCE of speaking the same words that are Christ, of hearing God’s words, as He speaks them, going all through our beings as a description of ourselves.

We cannot call God into His creation unless we KNOW the Word in all of it’s incredible qualities, and the BIBLE presents those qualities as earth, air, fire, and water. These are not “pagan” concepts, but it seems that only “pagans” understand them. Christians sure have not.

I’m looking at David in the Psalms. Here are just two references, Psalm 71 and 78. David says to God, “You are my Rock.” And he says, “Behold, He struck the rock so that waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed.

We must know every nuance of the Word as Rock – carved by the finger of God into stone. We must know every nuance of the Word as Air – The words that I speak to you are Spirit. We must know every nuance of the Word as Fire - Living indeed is the Word of God, and energeoing. And we must know every nuance of the word as Water, the water of life.

Yet in all of these, we are speaking of Word that is written all through the pathways of our hearts, and Word as the most incredible Person in the universe, the Lord Jesus Christ.

But that is looking ahead to our calling of God into creation. This letter is about the finest details of the Word by which God calls us into Himself.

The Greek word, kata, typically translated “according to,” includes the requirement of “every fine and tiny detail.” It also includes a “coming down to.”

We could say it this way. – Those who are being called down to the finest details of His Pro-Thesis.

I really want to get at this concept of “the finest details of.”

We could say that a dissertation, a thesis, is laid out in its three parts as (1) proposal, (2) review of precedence, and (3) final proof.

The literature review, which was my department for a season, was to lay out and weave together all the other studies that had been done on the primary topic of the proposal. In fact, I came to the conclusion that it is better to write the entire literature review before you finalize the proposal, that way you have a much clearer idea of what the proposal should be.

The Bible and everything in it is the literature review. My task in your life is not to call you by God’s proposal, neither do I have anything to do with the proof of Christ in your life. Rather, my job is to set out the entire scope of those many demonstrations of the word God speaks from Moses to John, that you might have a handle on the original proposal by which God Himself calls you and according to which God Himself proves Christ through you.

And look at how much writing God did and how much writing I have to do in order to get some small handle on the incredible layout of “the finest details of” that Word, that Proposal, by which you are being called.

Now, let’s picture God momentarily as a great, but visible Being, and that this Being is speaking words that are calling you into Himself. Those words in this picture, then are as a mighty vacuum, a Wind pulling you IN.

And we know that the INTENTIONS of this mighty Being calling you into Himself are FIERCE. You are caught in the GRIP of that call.

But this Word, these fine and specific details beyond count, is ALIVE.

(As I often say, I have no idea what on earth any of this means; it’s just that I love putting it out there in front of us.)

Next, let’s look at the verb, “are being.” In fact, the word “called” in this line is the Greek, kletos, which is the adjective form of the verb “to call.” It is a verbal, that is, an action adjective.
“Are being” is a form of “to be,” that is, “I am.” And in this line is that form of “to be” which is “present participle activedative masculine plural.”

Now, we are talking about this fierce intention in the form of words, drawing you into God.
“Present” means that it’s happening right now. Right now, God is summoning you into Himself. This is not a “been there, done that” kind of thing. It is immediate and personal, God in Person is right now summoning you into Himself.

“Participle” is a description of this present action of God, in that it is continuous and ongoing. From the moment you were conceived in your mother’s womb, you have been caught by this fierce Summons, and it does not cease.

Active means that God is doing this thing; God is presently and actively summoning you.
Then, dative also means that God is the doer and you are the object to which the doing is being done. God is calling you. God is the subject, you are the object.

Masculine means aggressive, fierce, and purposeful.

But plural throws in a whole new concept. Plural means that you are not by yourself in this mighty Wind of Words drawing you fiercely into God. Rather, a whole bunch of us are caught together in the same Summons.

All of this up till now, then, is a presentation of the broader picture. Now I want to attempt to express the great wonder I am seeing.

God summons us into Himself that we might summon God into His creation. – My heart is the Entrance of God. - Those who are being called according to the finest details of His Pro-Thesis.

I want to use a diagram I have used many times, but I want to change it’s direction.
Summoned into God.jpg

All of those fine and specific details are the entirety of Christ Jesus as God’s original Proposal.

Consider a tree growing on the edge of a cliff above the ocean. All of its growth patterns are bent and shaped by the fierce winds blowing over it from sea to land. Yes, it is rooted in the rock, but it is fully conformed in its shape to the directions of the winds.

Yet this picture of the gale force winds shaping the growth and direction of the tree is not quite strong enough, for this is a Pillar of Fire summoning us into Himself, and thus the better picture is the suction of a mighty tornado.

May I suggest that by this mighty Summons, you and I are being shaped by all the details that are Christ Jesus, every Word God speaks. Yet even more specific than “every Word God speaks,” and that is, God’s original Proposal set by Himself in the beginning before all.

You have magnified Your word above all Your name (Psalm 138:2).

As you read the following description by Solomon, this “I” who is speaking is Jesus as God’s original Proposal through whom all things will become. The “I” is this Pro-Thesis by which we are being summoned. And thus I include all of this passage, for Solomon is reaching out to include the vast panorama that are “all the finest details of.”

“The Lord possessed Me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was ever an earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth; while as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, or the primal dust of the world.

When He prepared the heavens, I was there, when He drew a circle on the face of the deep, when He established the clouds above, when He strengthened the fountains of the deep, when He assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters would not transgress His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him, rejoicing in His inhabited world, and My delight was with the sons of men” (Proverbs 8:22-31).

The Pro-Thesis of God.

Yet this WIND filled with WORDS is ALIVE. And by this WORD summoning us into God, we live. And every particle of what we are is being shaped fiercely by every detail that is this Word.
This mighty WIND summoning us into God is the shaping of all that we are.

Am I getting there? Are we catching the supernova reality of Romans 8:28b? Are we shaken to our core? Are we seized in the GRIP and in the Purposes of the most fierce Being of all?

Let’s look a bit more at this flow of Proposal – Precedence – Proof.

Essentially, God’s Proposal is Christ as the Pattern out from which all things come, God’s Precedence is the Lord Jesus, the Word made flesh and dwelling among us, and God’s Proof is the revelation of Jesus Christ through us His Church.

You and I are called to be the PROOF that what God spoke in the beginning is actually and unalterably TRUE.

Consider this concept. – “God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones” (Matthew 3:9). – God is able to turn a stone lying on the ground into a living, breathing descendent of Abraham, carrying the genes of Jacob in his or her body. – Not that God has any intention of doing that, rather, God’s original proposal is FAR MORE RADICAL than John the Baptist’s boast.

In fact, as I think about God’s original Proposal, I can only conclude that God is absolutely crazy, bonkers, nutty as a fruitcake, and thoroughly unzipped.

God’s Proposal is to take a bunch of dirt, or slimy mud to be more precise, but dirt that is not “soil”, but rather, soiled, or, as Paul put it, “crap.” God proposes to take a bunch of vile sinners, hostile against God, filled with fleshy lusts, self-serving and conceited, and to make them JUST LIKE the Lord Jesus Christ such that, before this age is over, God will have many “Jesus’s” living on this earth. And God’s Proposal is that these former vile sinners, whose throats have been an open sepulcher, whose mouths have been filled with cursing and bitterness, and whose feet have been swift to shed innocent blood, that these many are going to love one another and that their loving of one another WILL BE God Himself in Person stepping through them into His creation.

As I said – “Bonkers.”

God’s proposal is that you and I would be – symmorphosed with the image of His Son, transformed into His  same image, just like Jesus as we see Him as He is.

This present age of human folly opened with the words – Did God indeed say?

And that challenge has pressed against everything that God speaks from then until now, against every fine detail of every single word.

If God does not prove His original Proposal, if He does not come through with His great boast, that you and I will be just like the Lord Jesus, then –?

– As if!

The Wind of God’s Fierce Summons blowing over us and calling us out of the mire and into Himself is filled with every Word that is Jesus, causing us to be exactly like God’s original Proposal down to the finest tiny details.

That picture gives us the intensity of the Summons in which we are caught, and it gives us the shaping of our lives by Word, but it is not complete, for this God calling us into Himself is Love and every Word is kindness and favor.

And so, even though this picture is true and important, here is an even better picture of this same SUMMONS into God. Here is the true heart of God’s original Proposal.

Father, I desire that those whom You have given Me might be with Me [here inside of You], that they might behold My glory that You gave Me, because You loved Me before the foundation [from the blueprint] of the cosmos. Righteous Father, although the world has not known You, I have known You and these have known that You sent Me [for us now– into them]. And I have made known to them Your name and will make it known, that the love with which You loved Me, might be inside of them, and I inside of them (John 17:24-26 – rough JSV).

We are summoned because Jesus said to the Father, “I want them here with Me.”

I see that I am not quite finished. In fact, these words of Jesus, that are the drive behind our Father calling us into Himself, give us a better handle on what I hope to convey.

Without setting aside the great intensity of God’s Summons, I want to look now at what is happening to us as this Word in all of its details is continuously blown across us into God.

What I hope to convey is what we are being shaped by and how much we are being shaped by it. You see, the intensity of gale-force winds is only one aspect of air, the same air is also the gentlest of breezes rustling across us in the joy of spring time.

Yet these gentle breezes carrying in them the finest details of the aroma of the flowers, is the same shaping of our beings by God’s Pro-Thesis.

And it is the same living Word.

Let’s consider “according to the finest details” as being all the sweet aromas of a garden of herbs. Yet these aromas of Word are living as they flow over us.

These Words are our shape. They are the direction and flow of every particle of our being, spirit, soul, and body.

We rest utterly in these Words flowing as gentle breezes over us, enticing us into our Father’s Heart. And it is inside of our utter trust, that their Energeia is causing us to be.

Let it be to me according to Your Word.”

All darkness and horror broke across this age with the challenge of the serpent, “Did God really say that?”

God must give His full and final answer to that challenge BEFORE this age ends, before the resurrection of our bodies.

But God intends that His answer be in our lips, spoken by us together, “I am what I am.

The Proof, concrete and solid, and the final curtain.

God summons us into Himself – because Jesus said, “I went them here with Me” –, that we might summon God into His creation – because we say, “We want YOU here with us.”

Why do I say, “Father, You are here with me, part of me, sharing these awful feelings with me for the sake of your people” most all the time?

Because it’s what I want. I want a life of Father with me, therefore, I call Him to be so.
